Waste is a social, environmental, and public health issue. We consume more products and discard more trash every single year. Much of this waste gets burned, buried or shipped to other states. To reduce our demand for natural resources, landfill space, and incinerators, we need to give manufacturers and consumers greater incentives to:
• Reduce waste and its toxicity at the source;
• Promote the reduction and reuse of product packaging; and
• Create more opportunities to recycle and improve recycling markets.
