Statement from Environment Massachusetts Advocate Ben Wright on the House Passage of An Act Relative to Comprehensive Wind Siting Reform
Today the House of Representatives took an important step
forward by passing An Act Relative to
Comprehensive Wind Siting Reform.This
bill is one giant step on the road towards repowering 1 million Massachusetts homes with
wind by 2020.For far too long good,
environmentally sound wind projects have been delayed because of arcane
permitting procedures that make it easier to site a coal fired power plant in
Massachusetts that a wind turbine.I
applaud the hard work of the Legislature who worked tirelessly to pass a bill
that appropriately balances the need to build more wind power while protecting
environmentally sensitive areas.
