A level playing field for clean energy

Environment Massachusetts is fighting for a new bill that could help set our state on the path toward a clean energy future.
The Wind Facilities Siting Reform Act would put wind on an equal footing with fossil-fuel-fired power plants in the siting process, making it easier for community wind projects to get off the ground. The bill is crucial if the state is going to meet our goal of 20 percent renewable energy by 2020.

As we have learned from the ongoing Cape Wind saga, there is significant opposition to responsibly sited wind in Massachusetts. However, we will continue pushing lawmakers to pass this strong step forward for clean energy.

We urge you to contact your state elected officials and tell them you support the Wind Facilities Siting Reform Act.

Generating Failure

As the U.S. Senate gears up for a heated battle over a federal cap on global warming pollution, Environment Massachusetts is doing hard-hitting research to promote the truth about which new energy sources are worth the investment—and which don’t pass muster. In November, we released Generating Failure, a report documenting the high cost and dangers of nuclear power.

The nuclear industry is touting their technology as inexpensive, safe and emissions-free. But our report makes the case that the United States could prevent twice as much global warming pollution over the next 20 years if we redirect the money required to build 100 new nuclear reactors and invest in energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy instead.
