Progress on global warming
Environment Massachusetts-backed bills to tackle global warming are gaining momentum in both Boston and Washington, D.C.
On
Beacon Hill, the Legislature’s Joint Committee on the Environment,
Natural Resources and Agriculture, chaired by Sen. Pam Resor
(Worcester) and Rep. Frank Smizik (Brookline), has advanced the Global
Warming Solutions Act of 2007 to the floor of the House and Senate. The
landmark bill, sponsored by Sen. Marc Pacheco (Taunton), would cut
greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050. Environment Massachusetts
members from across the commonwealth have sent in more than 10,000
petition signatures in support of the bill.
At the national
level, every member of the state’s congressional delegation supports
the strongest, science-based legislation currently being considered.
“These
bills could help us finally do what it will take to really tackle
global warming,” said Ben Wright, Environment Massachusetts’ global
warming advocate.

Our decision-makers are considering legislation to finally tip the scales on global warming.
