Tell your state rep to update the bottle bill

Letter	Dear Representative, The bottle bill is the state’s most successful recycling and litter prevention program. Containers covered by the bottle bill boast a recycling rate of close to 70%, while those not covered are recycled only 20-25% of the time. By updating the Bottle Bill to include non-carbonated drinks like water, juices, sports drinks, and liquor, we could increase recycling, which means less trash in our landfills, incinerators, and streets and it means decreased costs for waste management. Please pass the Bottle bill update and bring the bottle bill into the 21st century. Sincerely,

The bottle bill is the state’s most successful recycling and litter prevention program. Since 1990, more than 15 billion containers have been redeemed, under the bill, contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment. But as consumers’ tastes change, the bottle bill must be updated to keep up with the times.

The update would add un-carbonated beverages such as bottled waters, sports drinks, iced tea and other beverages and would increase the nickel redemption to 10 cents.
