On Thursday, May 28th, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack issued a directive requiring that any new logging or roadbuilding projects in our most pristine national forest lands be approved by him.

Letter To Secretary Vilsack: Thank you so much for your action to protect our national forests. By insisting on Secretarial approval for any new logging or mining in pristine forests, you are saying that "the buck stops here." And that is an excellent first step. But there are others that must follow. Now that destructive activities can only happen with your approval, we must urge you: do not grant it. Like President Obama, I believe that the full task at hand is much greater - to restore complete and permanent protection to the nearly 60 million acres of roadless areas in our national forests.
