Attend a Public Listening Session on Development of the Ocean Management Plan

In the first step toward developing a comprehensive ocean management plan as required by the Ocean Act of 2008, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) is holding a series of public listening sessions across Massachusetts. Please attend one of these sessions to show your support for protecting Stellwagen Bank. Click here for the details.

Sign the petition: I am signing in support of full restoration of Clean Water Act protection to all of our lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands. I am concerned that recent Supreme Court rulings have exempted streams and wetlands from the full protection of the Clean Water Act. These waters are important for their own sake, for the wildlife they support, for their role in providing our communities with clean drinking water, and for the joy they bring to our lives. This environmental problem is neither costly nor complex to fix. It requires only one thing: the courage to stand up to powerful polluters and correct an egregious error in the law. With Congress about to hold hearings, will you help us reach 15,000 by signing today? http://www.environmentmassachusetts.org/action/atlantic-legacy/petition?id4=ES From Nantucket Sound to the Great Salt Pond, Cape Cod’s streams, ponds and beaches make it the treasure of the Bay State. As you know, Cape Cod’s waters can only be as clean as the small streams that feed them and the wetlands that help keep them clean. But in a bitterly divided Supreme Court decision, Justice Scalia wrote thousands of small streams -- and millions of acres of wetlands -- right out of the Clean Water Act. This is crazy. Now, if a company wants to dump toxic chemicals into one of those streams, there is nothing the federal government can do to stop them. In fact, the EPA says there are already 500 cases where this misguided decision is making it difficult to impossible to stop polluters who are degrading our waters. The solution is simple: Restore the protection of the Clean Water Act to all of these streams and wetlands -- indeed, to all of America’s waters. That’s what Environment Massachusetts’ petition asks Congress to do.
